Let’s take a little rest on my back porch and have some serious southern style conversation. I was not born in the south, I do not have a southern accent, and I don’t consider myself a true southerner. But, after living south of the Mason Dixon line for 15 years, I’ve learned a few things about life down here. The pace is slow, the weather is hot, and you’re in the minority if you don’t like sweet tea. Guess who doesn’t like sweet tea? This girl. Regular tea, yes. Sweet tea, no. But I do love a nice tall glass of cold lemonade. And the newest lemonade recipe that I’ve tried is watermelon lemonade.
I’m going to miss my screened-in porch. We’ve been in our home for the past 6.5 years and I’ve enjoyed lazy afternoons on that porch sipping my lemonade and iced tea. But we just closed on a new house a week ago and it’s time to move on. The new house has everything. Except a screened-in porch. It does have a nice patio with a pergola though so I can’t really complain. There is still a lot of porch (patio)-sitting and drink-sipping to be had but unfortunately I will not be safe from mosquitos
I love to add a twist to basic recipes… a flavor that you wouldn’t expect. Ever tried a basil lemonade slushee or strawberry basil lemonade? You don’t think basil with drinks, do you? Today we’re going to use fresh fruit instead of herbs.Want some lemonade with a twist? Try watermelon #lemonade! #ad #SummerRefreshment #FoodLionClick To Tweet
To start, you’ll need some lemonade. You could do the whole homemade thing but I’m a semi-homemade kinda girl. I’ve got a Food Lion basically right across the street from my new house so I headed over there to check it out and grabbed some Minute Maid® Lemonade along with the watermelon that I needed for this recipe.
Minute Maid is made with real lemons and takes me back to my 1980s childhood summers of creek-playing, tree climbing and fort building. This watermelon lemonade recipe couldn’t be easier. It’s only 2 ingredients and oh so refreshing.
The great thing about this recipe is that it doesn’t need to be exact. You can adjust the amount of watermelon and lemonade so it tastes just the way you like it. I used about 1/8 of the watermelon for each glass.
