Halloween is such a fun holiday. My kids have so much fun coming up with costume ideas. My favorite costumes are the family costumes. I always love seeing the great ideas that families come up with. One year we decided to go as Star Wars characters. My daughter was Leia, my son was Luke and my husband was Darth Vader. Me? I got stuck as an Ewok. I walked around all night with a brown blanket wrapped around me with  a pair of socks balled up as ears on top of my head. It was not my finest moment for sure.

When my kids were younger, the Halloween party celebration would be a week-long event. There were school parties and trunk-or-treats and trips to go trick or treating at the mall and on and on and on. It was downright exhausting. Now that they are older and can stay out later to enjoy the festivities on Halloween night, we usually go to a friends house for their Halloween party and trick or treating in their neighborhood.

Do you do any Halloween entertainingPutting together a Halloween party doesn’t have to take a lot of time or effort. I want to show you how easy it is to put together and give some tips that I’ve learned over the years of hosting parties.

In order to pull together this Halloween party, I headed to my local Cost Plus World Market in Wilmington, NC.  Find your local Cost Plus World Market store here.

I used classic Halloween decorations for this party, starting with a lace spiderweb tablecloth on top of a plain white bed sheet. If you have a white table, you won’t need the sheet. My table is brown and I couldn’t see the details of the web without the white sheet.

Isn’t that tablecloth just perfect? I’m so in love with it. The key to creating gorgeous tablescapes (in my opinion) is to create height. If you place everything on one level on the table, it doesn’t look as good as if you have items at different heights.  Adding height adds interest.

To do this, I used orange LED lighted willow branches on both ends of the table to flank my decor. Then I took some bats from  and simply taped them onto the wall behind my table.

This is how the branches look when they are lit up. Imagine how amazing these would look at night!

Once I had my backdrop and tablecloth set, I started to add decor the table. In order to get more height, I placed some black melamine plates onto some silver candlesticks. This is an easy way to display small food items like chocolate eyeballs and pumpkins.

I just love this candy bowl, don’t you? Instead of filling it with candy though, I just added some filler and skulls to create a fun centerpiece. To give it some height, I placed it on a tray that I turned upside down

For the drinks, I chose both green apple and grape soda. Red soda would look great too. I served it in mason jars and add skull swizzle sticks.

To display the favor bags, I simply took some wire baskets that I had and turned them upside down. The slots were perfect to keep the bags upright and the chicken wire held the gothic frosted Halloween  lollipops.
