DIY Dusting Spray… Spend Less, Clean More
This DIY dusting spray costs pennies to make, is non-toxic and will make you WANT to clean!
Ok, that last part is probably stretching the truth a bit. Nobody WANTS to clean, right? Do you know what cleaning task I hate? The correct answer would be all of them but I just HATE to dust. Dust gets absolutely everywhere and it is a tedious task to get rid of it all. Which probably why I don’t dust as often as I should.
I’m determined to be better at cleaning my house which is why I’m on a mission to make all my cleaning products. No more excuses about running out since I have everything on hand at home to make them. I made some DIY dusting spray the other day and it motivated me to dust. And if something can actually motivate me to clean, you KNOW it’s good.
DIY DUSTING SPRAY RECIPE
First, you’re going to need a spray bottle. I would recommend a dark glass spray bottles if you will be using essential oils. If you are not using essential oils in the recipe, you can use a plastic spray bottle.
- 1 cup warm water
- 1/4 cup white vinegar
- 2 TBS olive oil
- 5-10 drops essential oils (optional)
I recommend using essential oils in this recipe because the vinegar is very strong and some people find the scent unpleasant. Also, citrus essential oils such as lemon and orange aid in the cleaning process. My first essential oil choice was lemon but I realized that I was OUT OF LEMON! AACCKK! I probably used all of it in the last batch of my kitchen cleaner. So I substituted lavender instead for a nice smell. Lavender doesn’t aid in the cleaning process but it does give off a calming scent. And everyone needs more calm, right? Thieves oil would also be a good choice for this dusting spray.

HOW TO USE DIY DUSTING SPRAY
This is pretty self explanatory but I’ll explain my process anyway. The biggest tip that I can give you when dusting is to use a microfiber cloth. Do not use a paper towel. The microfiber cloth will pick up the dust and trap it and is less likely to leave streaks. I also like to spray the cloth instead of the surface being dusted. I don’t know if this really matters of helps but it is just the way I do it.
I use this method for dusting tabletops, baseboards, accesories and the tv screen. When it comes to dusting blinds, I do not use spray or a microfiber cloth. For blinds, I use the hose attachment on my vacuum cleaner.
I doubled this recipe so I have plenty on hand for months of cleaning. MONTHS of cleaning. Can someone just come to my house and clean for me?
And what good is a bottle of cleaner if you can’t tell what it is in the mess of all the other bottles in the cabinet? Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered with a printable label. I’ve also created another label with the recipe on it so when you run out of dusting spray, the recipe is right there on the bottle.
