It’s back to school time! My kids are starting 6th grade (Middle School – EEK!) and 3rd grade. I love creating teacher gifts and wanted to incorporate some hand lettering into the gifts this year so I came up with this easy clipboard teacher gift.

HOW TO MAKE A CLIPBOARD TEACHER GIFT

  1. Download the free cut file. You can access it in the resource library, available to my email subscribers. This file is for personal use only. You can use it to make teacher gifts but you may not sell what you make.clipboard teacher gift decorated with scrapbook paper and vinyl
  2. Cut the scrapbook paper to fit the clipboard. You may have to cut several pieces in order to cover the entire clipboard.clipboard teacher gift decorated with scrapbook paper and vinyl
  3. Place a thin coat of Mod Podge onto the clipboard and onto the back of the paper. Starting at the top of the clipboard, place the scrapbook paper down and smooth out the bubbles using a scraper tool or other flat object. Work in small sections until the entire clipboard is covered.
  4. Once the entire clipboard is covered with paper, place a coat of Mod Podge over the paper to seal it.clipboard teacher gift decorated with scrapbook paper and vinyl
  5. Cut out the file on vinyl using your Silhouette or Cricut. The design is sized to fit a standard size clipboard. If your clipboard is bigger or smaller, you’ll need to resize the design.

  6. After you have cut out the file, use weeding tools to weed the excess vinyl from around the text and the background. Basically, you remove any vinyl that is not part of the design.QUICK TIP FOR LESS VINYL WASTE: Place a box around your design in your cutting software. After you cut the design, all you need to do is weed inside the box and the rest of your vinyl sheet will be left intact.
  7. Using transfer tape, center the red vinyl text onto the white background. Rub with your scraper tool to adhere both layers together. Remove the backing from the white background and center the entire design onto the clipboard. clipboard teacher gift decorated with scrapbook paper and vinylclipboard teacher gift decorated with scrapbook paper and vinyl
  8. Rub with the scraper tool to adhere design to clipboard and remove the transfer tape.clipboard teacher gift decorated with scrapbook paper and vinyl

If you don’t have transfer tape, you can also use painters tape like I did. But since painters tape is not clear, it is difficult to line things up correctly. I recommend transfer tape but painters tape works if you are in a bind.

If you are not familiar with how transfer tape works, watch this short video:

When you are done, you’ll have a cute teacher gift all ready for the first day.I don’t know about you, but if I were a teacher, I’d love to receive this gift on the first day. Package this up with some pens, pencils, markers or highlighters and your kid is sure to get all A’s!
