Fall is birthday season in our house. We have all 4 birthdays within about 2 months of each other. Last week my girl turned 7. She is in love with art so we decided to throw her an Art Birthday Party.
This post is sponsored by DecoArt. All opinions are 100% my own.
DecoArt offers this great art package called Social Artworking. It comes with everything that you need to create a masterpiece…canvas, paints, instructions and even easels for your little budding artist. I knew this would be perfect for her party and DecoArt supplied me with everything I needed to host an amazing art birthday party.
Here are the highlights of the day:
We had 11 of her friends over. Guests were greeted with a chalkboard sign and colorful streamers and aprons. Beyond the streamers, they entered the “art studio” (aka the living room).

Once everyone arrived, they painting began. DecoArt offers many designs with their Social Artworking package. My daughter chose an ice cream design that is part of their Junior package for younger kids. I really loved seeing the difference in each girls’ painting.
For the party food, I served Rice Krispie treat paint brushes, cake balls on paint pallets, fruit pizza and “creative juice”.
The cake was in the shape of a paint palette. My daughter requested a layered rainbow cake like last year but to be honest I just wasn’t up to doing that again so I’m very relieved that she was ok when I suggested this cake.
Another little detail that I loved were the paint chip utensil holders that I made. Easy and free!
I kept the decorations simple and colorful. I used white background so the colors would pop. I hung simple (and cheap) streamers, made small art easels out of popsicle sticks to hold the food labels and filled plastic paint cans with shredded tissue paper for more decor.
I thought about filling the paint cans with candy but since my daughter’s birthday is a week after Halloween, I figured most parents are candied-out! I know I am and I didn’t want to be left with a bunch more candy. I also made easels for each girl to keep track of whose painting was whose when they were placed outside to dry.
After cake and presents it was time to wrap things up.
The girls each got watercolors for favors. They also got to take home their aprons, paint brushes, pallets and of course, their masterpieces.
Are you ready to throw an amazing Art Party? Consider using DecoArt’s Social Artworking package.

So fun!! I love all the bright colours and the theme, which of course is amazing b/c not only does it take care of the activities at the party, but promotes creativity!
The jars are Starbucks frappacino bottles that you get at the grocery store. I drank A LOT of them and hoarded the bottles 🙂 The paint trays were from Michaels but you can probably get them at any craft store.
Love this party! I’m looking at the designs and they give an estimate for time needed to complete the painting. Some take an hour and others are said to take 1.5 hours. Would you say these times are accurate? How long did it take to complete the paintings at your party? My daughter keeps picking designs with the longer time and I’m a little worried it may be too long. I’m also trying to decide on the length of the party as well. 🙂
Hi Becky! Our party lasted 2 hours and the girls had plenty of time to finish their paintings. I would say it probably took them about an hour to paint. During the second hour, we had the food and opened presents.
Such a fun party! My daughter just asked to do an ‘art party’ for her 7th birthday and I stumbled across your page while searching for ideas. Did you have to have a bottle of paint for each child, or did the 4 oz bottles cover it for all 11 kids?
Hi – Love, Love, Love this idea. My daughter is turning 10 in July and this is our theam. Where did you get the name tags for each popsicle easel and the tags that say “Thanks for making my party a Masterpiece? Where did you get the labels for the creative juice? and the plates and napkins?
Hi Dana! Thanks so much for your kind words. I made all the printables. I’m thinking about putting them in my Etsy shop soon. I got the plates and napkins from Walmart.
I just “favorite” your Esty page. If you can have the easel label’s, masterpiece label’s and an Art Party invitation on your Esty page, I will buy they all.
Hi Jenny! There is a party planner portion on their site where you can enter in the number of guests and it will suggest the amount of items that you need. I think that I used 1 bottle each of the colored paint and 4 bottles of the white paint but it will vary depending on te picture that you choose. There were about 10 girls at the party.
I was actually wanting to do an art party for my daughter and saw this and this helps so much. I do have a question though, how long did it take for you to receive the items? And you said you had to stencil the pic on the canvas that they provide?
I would allow a few weeks for delivery. Definitely plan early and don’t wait until the last minute. I think the kit came with a special type of paper that allowed you to trace the design directly onto the canvas.

I want to be invited to an art birthday party! This is AWESOME!!
This party seems doable…which is what I need right now! Did you buy the jars and the paint trays at deco art as well?

Hi Erika! I think I ordered the paint cans from either Oriental Trading Company or Amazon.

The easels came with the DecoArt Social Artworking package. You can also find them at craft stores such as Michaels.

The 4 oz. bottles covered it all. I had a few extra bottles of white.
Any chance you have a printable for the watercolor gifts? Super cute!

Hi Did you buy a “kit” for each child? I’m trying to judge how far the paint and the actual design will go and how much to buy

How do the patterns work? Do they print out and you give to each child or??
There is one pattern that you stencil onto each canvas. I stenciled the canvases before the party started.
