How to Host an Easy Football Party

Last week was the start of the NFL regular season.  To say I’m excited is an understatement.  I can think of nothing better than parking my butt on the couch for hours on end each Sunday, consuming massive amounts of unhealthy food and beverage,  and watching games that I would normally not watch all because of this thing called Fantasy Football that I get roped into playing each year.  And have you seen the commercial with the guy who rips out his white picket fence and takes it to the game? *Go Cardinals*!  I’m not a Cardinals fan but the commercial is my new fav.  Anyway, football season deserves to be celebrated and I want to to show you how to host an easy football party.

A football party is easy to put together. Spread out some food on a table, add some appropriate decorations and let your guests help themselves. I put together the food table using items I already had. Keep it simple and add some height with any type of container that you may have on hand.  I love the chalkboard that I created on my wall a few years ago.  It makes the perfect backdrop for many parties.

Finger foods and “grab-n-go” foods are key for hosting a successful football party. Foods such as chips and dip (I made buffalo chicken dip), sliders, and onion rings are perfect game-day foods.  For a sweet dessert, try some chocolate covered strawberries decorated like footballs. With these types of foods, no utensils are needed (except a spoon to serve the dip).

Use simple football themed decorations such as  football field drink coozies, my printable football pennant banner, football subway art and a bucket full of yellow napkins labeled “penalty flags”

Purchase a small black bucket or spray paint one that you already have.  I spray painted this one with chalkboard paint. Use a white paint pen or chalk marker to write on the bucket.  Keep a cooler full of cans or bottled drinks near the food table with a pile of coozies nearby.  This way, there are no plastic cups to keep track of and the cans and bottles can be recycled at the end of the party.

Then sit back and cheer on your team.  You’re all invited over this weekend. Unless you are a Steelers fan.  Go Ravens.
