I love to decorate our fireplace mantel.  Since our old house did not have a mantel, it was one of my my favorite features of our home when we moved in.  I decorate it for every season and holiday. Lately, I’ve been into a more neutral color palette in my home; a color palette that goes well with all seasons and decor and I’m so excited to show you my new mantel decor today.

One of the big issues in our living room is that our ceilings are high.  Because of this, I needed something big and substantial to fill up the space above the mantel. An 8″x10″ picture frame just wasn’t going to cut it. Even a 16″ x 20″ frame was going to be too small. I knew I was on the right track with the tall bunches of reeds and I was really excited to try out a mantel decor idea that my husband and I came up with: A huge DIY frame.

I knew I needed something BIG to make a statement and I think we accomplished that goal.

It is the perfect backdrop for all sorts of mantel decor.  Fall colors? Yep!  Holidays? That gold color is perfect for metallic themed holiday decor. Winter? Natural wood sprigs against the gold is beautiful.

The great thing about this frame is that it is super light-weight because it is made from Acoustic Ceiling Products (ACP).  These panels may look like real metal but they aren’t!  They are light-weight, easy to work with and look incredible when installed.

ACP come in several different styles and attach together easily with heavy duty doubled sided tape so you can make your statement piece as big as you want. They come in several styles and colors but I chose to use the color Bermuda Bronze.

This project came together so quickly. Honestly, the most time consuming part was the measuring because we wanted to make sure to get things just right. Measure twice, cut once.  Or in our case, measure a gazillion times to make sure it is absolutely perfect, then cut. A few hours, a couple of panels and molding, a few simple cuts using a miter box and you have a fantastic focal point for a mantel.

I’m really loving how the mantel came together.  The frame acts as a neutral backdrop for my decor and is easily moved when I want to change it out.  I love the extra layer of texture that the Acoustic Ceiling Products add to the frame and to my mantel.
