Hello everyone! It's so nice to meet you! I'm Dawn and I write the blog Addicted to Recipes. I am so excited to be a part of Kelly's Back to School Series here at Here Comes the Sun - thanks Kelly for hosting!
I'm a wife and Mom to two boys. Addicted to Recipes is about recipes old and new, some that I have been collecting since I was a child. There are always cookbooks lying out around my house, and my family is even involved with our cooking adventures! Some of our favourite recipe discoveries include Sweet & Spicy Ribs, German Apple Cake, and Morning Glory Muffins. I hope you will stop by and check out my collection! I also host a weekly link party, Scrumptious Sunday, where you can come and share your recipes (and feed my addiction!)
I sure hope that your September is off to a GREAT start! It is hard to believe that summer is "over" and it is "Back to School" time!
Last year we had our first little "taste" of back to school, as our oldest started preschool (his preschool happened to be at the elementary school where he is now attending Kindergarten) - but now...it's the major leagues...he's a big boy...time for Kindergarten! He is so excited, and he is totally ready. Hopefully this transition to school will go smoothly...fingers crossed! He's had an exciting summer, half of it home with me for the end of my maternity leave, and the other half spend with friends and family, hanging out, playing and camping!
With back to school, back to work, and the start of daycare for the baby, I'm now faced with the daunting task of...eeks...PACKING LUNCHES...5 days a week! Yah yah, stop rolling your eyes! All the parents who have been doing this for years, please remember that you were new to this at one time too :-)
I'm sure that many parents will agree, that the whole lunch packing can be a little overwhelming. There are a lot of things to consider when planning your children's lunches...is the classroom a nut-free zone? Are there other allergies to be mindful of? We want to send a variety of food and cover the food groups and the rainbow too. It's no surprise that sometimes we feel that bit of "eeks!".
In my case, add in the fact that I've never had to pack a daycare lunch for a 1 year old (our oldest went to a home-based daycare for a few years, and all his food was provided) and it's no wonder planner me is stressing out a bit! LOL On the plus side, because I'm mass-producing lunches of a few varieties, I'm also making my lunch for work...and those lunches are much healthier choices too!
If you are a Pinterest fan like me, then you likely have seen some of the great bento box ideas out there. I took my inspiration from those, but decided to use the reusable containers that we already own to create our lunches. Here are a few samples (and I've included which child each lunch was for).
