I cannot TELL you how excited I am to finally be able to reveal my son's airplane room. This has been a LOOOONG time in the making. And it wasn't because anything was too difficult. I didn't do any major construction or anything. It just took a long time to track down exactly what I was looking for.
My son became interested in airplanes a little bit before his 2nd birthday. He is now 2.5 if that gives you a time frame on how long this took. I started piecing things together a little at a time. This room started as a blank slate...literally. We moved in a little over a year ago. The room has beige walls and beige carpet. Unfortunately, we rent so I can't do all the amazing things that I want to do like installing board and batten and built ins. So I have to work around the boring, blah backdrop while I dream about major decorating/renovations when I own a house.
I went with the vintage airplane theme rather than the more modern airplanes. I decided on a blue and red color scheme with some pops of yellow.
The first thing I put up were these letters.
They are plain wooden letters that I got from the craft store and painted different shades of blue. These letters hung on the wall and were very lonely for a while.
My mom made this amazing airplane quilt for my son's bed.
I store his soft-cover books in this basket. The basket was originally white and I sprayed it red to coordinate with the room. I'm not too sure about the liners. I may make some liners to match better with the fabric from the quilt.
I use this three drawer unit to store his small toys and placed some vinyl airplane decals on the drawers. The red "C" on top is leftover from the decorations from his 2nd birthday.
I bought this vintage airplane sign from Amazon and placed it on a small shelf from IKEA. The planes on the shelf below it were from a local toy store.
One of his favorite toys (other than airplanes) sits below the shelves. You can see the tool belt that I made him hanging on the side.
I think my favorite part of the room is the airplane kite that we hung from the ceiling. I just love it and so does he.
So here it is all put together. I love rocking and reading to my "baby" in the chair by the window.
He is in a Buzz Lightyear phase right now.
He is growing up so fast but he will always be my little boy.
