Freeze Pop Holder

1 comment :
Do your kids suffer from cold, sticky hands when eating a freeze pop? Behold... the Freeze Pop Holder. Such a simple idea really and it only takes a few minutes to make. Cut two pieces of felt to 5 inches long by 2.5 inches wide. Sew down the sides and across the bottom, leaving the top open to insert the freeze pop. You can also use hot glue instead of sewing but I wanted to be able to throw them in the wash if they become a hot mess.

That's it! You can add embellishments if you want. I used fabric paint to
draw my kids' initials on them (so there would be no fighting over whose is whose!!).

That's a happy girl!

Sunburst Mirror

3 comments :

Have you seen the sunburst mirrors popping up all over the place lately?

I have wanted one forever. I. LOVE. them. But my wallet does not. Finally found one that I liked and alas, it was close to 400 bucks. Not gonna happen. So I was more than thrilled to find out how to make one here.

You will need:

1.10 inch mirror ($3.99 at Michael's...but use that 40% off coupon)
2. 2 packs of bamboo skewers (I found mine in the
grilling section of the local grocery store.. .99 cents for a pack of 100)
3. Picture hangers and wire
4. Spray paint

Measure 1 inch from the pointed end of the bamboo skewers and mark.

Make a circle template divided into 16 sections for the back of your mirror. Hot glue the template to the back of the mirror. I taped the template down first and then glued around the edges so I did not get any "bubbles" is the middle of the template. Attach your skewers to the template, making sure to line up the marks with the edge of the paper. Use LOTS of glue. LOTS and LOTS of glue.

After you have the 16 skewers in place, create a pattern that you can repeat between each of the 16. For my pattern, I chose to use 6 skewers in each "slice". I found that anymore than 6 did not fit. If you like a more random look to your sunburst, you don't need to create a pattern. You can just glue the skewers on in any formation that you like. Remember you can never have too much glue in this step. Put hot glue in every crevice to hold the skewers in place.

Once the glue is fully dry, cover the mirror with saran wrap and tape the edges. Spray paint the skewers. I used Valspar Metallic. Use as many coats as you need to get your desired effect. I only needed one coat but you may need more. Sorry I do not have a pic of this step. It was about 100 degrees out that day so the less time I spent outside the better. Just put down a tarp, newspaper, plastic...whatever and spray.

After the paint is dry, cut a square out of the paper pattern on the back of the mirror using an exacto knife. Adhere the picture hangers to the mirror with Gorilla glue. You want to adhere the hangers directly to the mirror and not the paper. Thread the picture wire through the hangers and twist to secure.

The back of the finished product (minus the picture wire)

Hang on your wall and enjoy the mirror that you just made for less than 10 bucks. I hung mine with 3M Command strips to avoid damage the walls. I really liked how this turned out. I hung mine over our bed.

May is for Mothers

No comments :
I had such a wonderful Mother's Day last month and I wanted to capture it on a scrapbook page. Scrapbooking was the first craft that I fell in love with. I did a LOT of paper scrapbooking and have just started to get into digital scrapbooking. I LOVE digital scrapbooking because if you don't like something, just hit undo and start over. You don't waste paper by making wrong cuts and you can place and replace embellishments without tearing the paper as you try to rip them off. Here is a page that I created to showcase my daughter, Madison. I love this photo. And yes, I do have another child. Its just hard to get a good picture of a 20 month old who is always on the go. I hope to get a good one of him soon to showcase him and daddy on a Father's Day page.

Father's Day Subway Art

No comments :
I'm hopping on the Subway Art bandwagon. I never knew how to do this until I discovered Picnik. What an amazing site! I'm planning on putting this into a nice little frame for my husband to put on his desk at work. Shhhh... don't tell him what he's getting for Father's Day.

I had so much fun with this and think it turned out great. I'm already planning more for around the house.

Coastal Mantel

No comments :
Summer is here and with it comes a revamp of the mantel. Or shelf, in this case. This shelf is located over the tv.

I decorated it with the "Family" Wall Art that I posted a tutorial on previously. The decorative vases are from the dollar store. I refer to them as dollar store hurricane glasses. Two hurricane vases, two candle sticks and some glue. Turn the candle sticks upside down and glue to the vases. Ba-da-bing. Ba-da-boom. I made these last year around Thanksgiving for table decorations. You can fill them with anything. The sand and shells located inside the hurricane glasses are from our recent trip to the beach. Its just one more perk about living so close....we go to the beach when my husband gets off work. No crowds, less heat, and an hour or so of daylight left to search for seashells.

But getting back to the mantel....the rest of the items are things that I already had. I swiped the starfish from some bathroom decor and some twine balls from a vase I had on display. So, there you go.... Coastal Mantel. Hope you like it.

Family Wall Art

No comments :
I am always looking for items to decorate with that can be interchangeable throughout the seasons. The shelf over our tv currently houses two empty hurricane glasses (made from items from the dollar store!). These will be filled at a later date. My dilemma was what to do with the blank wall space. Here is what I came up with:

FAMILY WALL ART

Here is what you will need:

1. Picture frame (any size you want)
2. Scrapbook paper
3. Vinyl wall art (I found mine at the dollar store)
4. Scissors
5. Ruler
6. Pencil
7. Tape

Step 1:
Disassemble the picture frame and clean the glass with Windex.

Step 2:
Adhere the vinyl wall art to the front of the glass. Mine wasn't actual vinyl. It was a removable sticker that I found at the dollar store. They have a lot of cute sayings for way cheaper than anywhere else.

Step 3:
Cut your scrapbook paper to fit inside your picture frame. I chose a piece of plain paper rather than a pattern. If you want to use a patterned paper, make sure that the pattern will line up correctly if you have to use more than one sheet of paper. Choose a color that you love. Right now, I am very in love with the color aqua. It reminds me of the beach. Something else I love.

I have no idea why this photo won't upload the correct way. Oh, well... you get the idea though.

Step 4:
Re-assemble your picture frame with the scrapbook paper placed behind the glass.

Step 5:
Hang (or lean) against the wall and enjoy.

That's it! Super easy.

With the vinyl adhered to the glass, you can easily swap out the scrapbook paper to coordinate with any decorating scheme. Think red for Christmas, golden hues for fall, etc.
